Clippers have been the second team in Los Angeles for 25-years with the Lakers in town, but they will have the spotlight on them later this month

By Anthony Caruso III

The Los Angeles Clippers have been known as the second NBA team in recent years. With the Lakers expected to win the Championship in the next few games, the Clippers will be the second team in Los Angeles again.

But for a night later this month, they will have all the spotlight on them. The Clippers have the No. 1 draft pick in this month’s NBA draft. This is just the third time the franchise has had the No. 1 overall draft pick.

The Clippers used the 1988 No. 1 draft pick on Danny Manning. They used the 1998 No. 1 draft pick on Michael Olowokandi. The Clippers had a 17.7% chance of winning the 2009 No. 1 draft pick, which is expected to be used on Blake Griffin.

The Clippers have had only 7 winning seasons in franchise history, which includes their time as the Buffalo Braves and the San Diego Clippers. But only four of those winning seasons as the Los Angeles Clippers. They lose in the Conference semi-finals in 2006, which just happens to be the furthest the Clippers have made it in the playoffs.

The Clippers are currently the oldest NBA team to never appear in the NBA Finals. The Clippers are one of four teams — Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, Charlotte Bobcats — to never won an NBA Championship, Conference Championship, or Division Championship.
