Lee won't be signing with the Thunder or the Grizzlies like previously expected

By Anthony Caruso III

Many people thought David Lee would sign with either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Memphis Grizzlies heading into free agency. Well, now, it appears that he won’t be signing with either one of those teams. Lee is asking for more than $10 million dollars a season.

The Thunder do not want to sign Lee, because they are thinking about the future. The Thunder will have to re-sign Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Russell Westbrook, their core group of young stars, over the next two summers. Durant is expected to get the max, while Green and Westbrook is expected to get around $7-10 mill per season.

And with the Grizzlies acquiring Zack Randolph in a trade for Quentin Richardson, the Grizzlies have no need to sign Lee, another power forward. Randolph’s trade will not be official until next season when signings and trades can become official. This will be Randolph’s third team since the beginning of last season — Knicks, Clippers, and Grizzlies.
